Persuasion or Manipulation

Do you ever notice that for some people it seems so simple for them to have anyone they associate with to more often than not support their ideas? They appear to have no problem in turning their ideas into real action. Most of these people tend to persuade others to get the results they want. Or do they manipulate others into a situation to (or “intending to”) getting what they want?

Have you ever thought about this for any length of time?


Persuasion is an art in itself, where people position themselves to generate real value for others. You have to have a range of skills to do this, things like having personal credibility, the ability to win over other people's thought processes and beliefs, along with being able to overcome resistance. Most people without realizing it draw on these skills on a daily basis, they just don't always realize it.

Someone once said that the best way to shape the future or to develop your future is to influence it. But to shape that future, it must be done ethically, and there must be the mutual gain for those involved. It becomes manipulation when you do this for personal gain only, if you are doing things for personal gain, then you're not adding value to yourself or anyone else. Typically you are likely to even being unethical or using unethical tactics to manipulate others for personal gain. It will destroy your reputation and credibility in a very short order.

You know the old saying: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Taking this into consideration, I believe one key factor to persuasion is to "listen to others as you would have them listen to you" This not only will improve your relationships but it will build trust with others. When people feel that they have been heard, they then feel that their opinion is being valued, and then they will become more open to considering your point of view and your ideas.

So if at times you feel that you may be manipulating others into your point of view, maybe consider sharpening your "persuasion skills" so that you can add value to others and in turn be able to take your ideas and turn them into valuable business outcomes for the benefit of everyone involved. Sometimes a little education to gain some additional knowledge can take you a long way.

Engage~Inform~Educate it will add to your credibility as well as increase the value to everyone you associate with: persuade rather than manipulate

Being in network marketing is hard when there is so many to choose from to start making money. If you're just starting out, you are probably overwhelmed by how many there are. You are probably getting bombarded with people trying to sell you on their opportunity that sounds excellent.

It's like tying you to a rope and playing tug-a-war as to who is going to sign you up. You are probably feeling like you are being tugged in a hundred different directions, and it is wearing you out. Believe me, I know the feeling. I have been where you are at, and it is time for you to cut the ropes.

Start by evaluating each opportunity

Stability - Make sure the company has been in business for at least five years.
Do they have a legal product/service that has a high demand?
What is the commission based on recruiting or sales? If based on recruiting it's a scam.
Look at how fast you will generate income. If you are spending more on the ADP than you are in commissions, you will lose money. There are opportunities that require a one-time fee with no ADP obligations. One that comes to mind is Multipure.
Attend the seminars and learn what you can from each company.

This list may sound like a lot of work, but it will save you time and money. When you do find the right opportunity, stay F.O.C.U.S., Follow One Coarse Until Successful. Will keep you from being pulled in a hundred different directions.

Also, stay consistent. Most of the successful Network Marketers I have met say that the Key to their success was being consistent. It will build your credibility to market online and people will be more apt to follow you no matter what you do.

Another is to work as a T.E.A.M., Together Everyone Achieves More. Working as a team will give you ideas to build your business. Have you heard the phrase,"Two Heads are better than one"? People on your team may have some ideas to share with you. If you find something that works then share it with your team. Their success is your success.

You can't do every single network marketing program that tugs on you so you have to narrow it down to the one that is suitable for you. These are just a few ways you can free yourself from network marketing tug-a-war.
