This story is called, "The Secret of Success."
The following inspiring story has
changed my life. I hope it will do the same for you.
There was once a boy who wanted to seek the secret of
success. One day he approached a wise man living up in
the mountain.
When he found the wise man at the hut, he
asked, "Wise man, can you tell me the secret to becoming
successful in life?" The wise man was silent for a
while. After a moment of silence, the wise man led the
young lad to a nearby river.
They kept walking into the river until the boy's head was
entirely submerged in the water. The boy struggled to keep
his head above the water.
To his astonishment, the wise man did not help
him. Instead, the wise man held the boy's head in the
water. After a few minutes, the wise man pulled the boy
Out of the water and they proceeded to walk back to the
hut.
At the hut, the wise man asked the young boy what
he desired most when his head was submerged in water.
To this, the young boy quickly responded, "Of course, I
wanted to breathe, you old fool!"
To which the wise man replied, "Son if you desire success
as much as you wanted to breathe, then you would have found
the actual secret of success."
The above story is one that I read whenever I feel de-motivated.
It always makes my day much better. Hope you enjoy and also benefit from this story.

Excellent! It's a story worth reading whenever anyone feels his or her motivation levels going down or when adversity strikes. I'm going to use it myself. It's a story that's very easy to remember, especially when the young boy's head was submerged in the water and he desperately wanted to breath.
Thank you Fred l do agree with you on that one....thanks for sharing with us.
I have read this article several times, each time l read it l get a different meaning........success truly is a totally different level for all who seek it.......Success to one is totally different from everyone else.......why success works........"only you know what you desire".........the rest is simple..
What do you think?
Those analogy stories are always worth taking time out to read, digest and ponder upon. First time I heard that one many years ago it was a Zen Master and his student with the "secret of life" being the punch line. Kind of puts a fresh perspective on Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
Hi Jon,
I truly agree with the new look on the perspective on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Life situations at times can be explained in a very simple form of getting the most direct route of how to create action on your desire, and most want to be successful.......interesting concept when you actually think about it.....simple but hard to achieve.....why only you know your liabilities.....thanks for the feed back Jon....
Can you tell us more about this? I'd love to find out some additional information.
